Let's Discuss the name change

Hold onto your hats, because VMware just made a big change! They've rebranded their annual conference from the stodgy old name of "VMware VMworld" to the much more exciting and adventurous "VMware Explore"!

Why the change, you ask? Well, VMware has been expanding its offerings beyond just virtualization and into cloud computing, software-defined infrastructure, and security products. So, the old name just didn't cut it anymore.

By changing the name to VMware Explore, the company is signaling its commitment to innovation and exploration in the rapidly evolving world of technology. They want to help customers navigate the complex landscape of IT and embrace the latest technologies to drive their businesses forward. And with a name like "Explore," you know they're ready to boldly go where no tech company has gone before!

Not content to stop at just a new name, VMware also unveiled a new logo and tagline for the event. The new logo features a cool stylized "X" that represents exploration and innovation, while the tagline "Discover. Connect. Innovate." emphasizes the value of attending the event to discover new products, connect with peers and experts, and innovate with the latest technologies.

So there you have it - the new VMware Explore is all about breaking new ground, exploring new technologies, and connecting with other tech enthusiasts. It's the place to be for anyone looking to stay ahead of the curve and drive innovation in the fast-paced world of technology!

Recap

From February 28 to March 2, 2022, the virtual doors of this amazing event were flung wide open, bringing together some of the brightest minds in the industry. We're talking experts, engineers, developers, and IT professionals, all gathered in one place to share their knowledge, swap stories, and discuss the latest advancements in technology.

And boy, were there some exciting announcements! If you're a tech lover, you won't want to miss a beat. From incredible keynote speeches to breakout sessions and product demonstrations, this event had it all. Here are just a few of the amazing things that were announced:

  1. VMware Anywhere Workspace: VMware Anywhere Workspace is a new product that offers a unified platform for managing and securing applications, devices, and data across different locations and environments. It provides a modern and user-friendly interface for managing remote work, allowing employees to access all the tools and resources they need from anywhere. VMware Anywhere Workspace also includes a range of security features, such as encryption, two-factor authentication, and device management, to ensure that data is protected at all times.
  2. VMware Tanzu Application Platform: VMware Tanzu Application Platform is a new platform that allows developers to build and deploy modern applications on any infrastructure. It provides a unified framework for developing, testing, and deploying applications, and it supports a wide range of programming languages and frameworks. Tanzu Application Platform is designed to be flexible and scalable, allowing developers to choose the best deployment option for their applications, whether it be on-premises or in the cloud.
  3. VMware vSphere with Tanzu: VMware vSphere with Tanzu is an updated version of VMware's virtualization platform that includes support for Kubernetes. It allows IT teams to deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters directly on vSphere infrastructure, eliminating the need for a separate Kubernetes deployment. With vSphere with Tanzu, IT teams can manage both virtual machines and containers from a single interface, making it easier to deploy and manage applications.
  4. VMware Carbon Black Cloud Workload: VMware Carbon Black Cloud Workload is a new security product that provides real-time visibility and threat detection for workloads running in the cloud. It uses machine learning and behavioral analytics to identify and respond to threats, and it integrates with VMware's other security products to provide a comprehensive security solution.
  5. VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery: VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery is a new disaster recovery service that provides on-demand failover and failback for VMware workloads. It allows IT teams to replicate their workloads to the cloud, and in the event of a disaster, they can failover to the cloud and continue operations with minimal downtime.

Another significant announcement came around VMware's new offering called "vSphere+" during their annual conference. vSphere+ is an expansion of their virtualization platform, vSphere, with added capabilities designed to help customers manage their hybrid and multi-cloud environments more effectively.

One of the key features of vSphere+ is its integration with VMware's cloud management platform, vRealize Suite. This integration allows customers to manage their hybrid and multi-cloud environments from a single console, providing greater visibility and control over their entire infrastructure.

vSphere+ also includes enhanced security features, such as encrypted vMotion, which encrypts data as it's moved between hosts, and the ability to set secure boot policies for virtual machines. These features are critical for customers who need to comply with strict security and regulatory requirements.

Another important aspect of vSphere+ is its support for Kubernetes and containers. VMware has integrated Kubernetes into vSphere+ to provide customers with a more integrated experience for managing containerized applications.

Overall, vSphere+ represents an important direction for VMware's virtualization platform, with added capabilities that help customers manage their hybrid and multi-cloud environments more securely, and cost-effectively.

Out of all these announcements, I felt the most significant one was the introduction of VMware Anywhere Workspace. This product brings together several existing VMware products into a single platform and provides a user-friendly interface for managing remote workers. With the rise of remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this product is highly relevant as it addresses many of the challenges faced by IT teams and remote workers. VMware Anywhere Workspace also includes several security features, which are critical for ensuring that remote work is conducted in a secure and compliant manner. Overall, this product has the potential to transform the way organizations approach remote work, and it is a significant step forward for VMware.
